On August 5, 2009 the Minister for Foreign Affairs Sergey Shamba received the head of the United Nations Office for Human Rights in Abkhazia Mr. Richard Komenda. According to Mr. Komenda, it’s his farewell visit to the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia as the head of the UN Office for Human Rights in Abkhazia as this Office wraps up its activity in the republic.
According to the spokesman for the foreign policy department, at the meeting Mr. Komenda thanked the Ministry for Foreign Affairs for support and close cooperation for the Office during its operation in Abkhazia. In turn Sergey Shamba also thanked the United Nations Office for Human Rights for the important work in the difficult postwar years of the Republic’s development. The head of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs also expressed hope of continuation of cooperation with the United Nations in a different format in accordance with new realities.
