The president of the Chechen Republic in Russia’s North Caucasus wants his title eliminated at the regional level, the RIA Novosti news agency reported Thursday.

Ramzan Kadyrov, a former separatist warlord who transformed himself into a vocal Kremlin supporter, said in a letter to the regional parliament that there should be only one president in Russia.

«It’s time to stop the parade of regional presidents,» Kadyrov wrote.»The regional heads must be called governors or heads of administration or whatever… but in a single state there should be only one president.»

The heads of about 20 regions in Russia currently hold the official title of president.
