An attempt on vice-president Alexander Ankvab was committed in Abkhazia

According to the first deputy Interior Minister Ramin Gablaya, the incident occurred last night at 2:15am Moscow time.

An unknown person fired a RPG-26 grenade launcher and hit the roof of the two-storeyed house. As a result of the blast Alexander Ankvab got his leg and arm wounded.

Representatives of the State Security Service, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Prosecutor General’s Office arrived at the scene. Specialists for the expert and forensic centre headed by Eduard Manargia are carrying out necessary work. Necessary investigation actions are being taken.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, it has already been the fifth attempt on Alexander Ankvab’s life since 2005.
