The Moscow publishing house «Europe» founded by the magazine «Expert», the Russian institute and IА REGNUM, at support of the Fund «Caucasian institute of democracy» had issued «The Atlas of ethno-political history of Caucasus (1774-2004)» by Arthur Tsutsiev.
The book was made with 50 maps with extensive historical comments: beginning with ethno-linguistic maps of Caucasus of 1774-1783, 1886-1890 and the maps of Caucasus’ integration to Russia in its dynamics since 1774 till 1864, and the maps of various models of government of the Caucasian territories; Russian and «not-Russian» colonization of Caucasus; geography of religions, and finishing with the maps of territorial state-forming of Azerbaijan, Georgia, Armenia and autonomies within the civil war and intervention, the USSR and the USSR disintegration.
Special place in the atlas belongs to the maps of the current conflicts in Mountain Karabah, South Ossetia, Northern Ossetia, Abkhazia, the zones of military campaigns in Chechen Republic and Dagestan, and to the evident picturing of historic-territorial ideolegems – representations of the peoples of Georgia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Abkhazia, Chechen Republic and Ingushetia, Ossetia, Karachai and Balkaria about their desirable, «fair», «historical» borders of the states and nations.
The book has maps of modern communications and migratory tendencies in Caucasus, modern administrative-territorial division, including territories de facto controllable by not recognized states. According to experts, that atlas is the first regular and unique experience of «equally-remote» description of the ethnic and state history of Great Caucasus for the last 200 years.
