In Sukhumi on Saturday, July, 10th, an attempt of murder of imam of Sukhum mosque Saalikh Kvaratskheliya was committed. That was informed in the statement of the Spiritual management of Muslims of Abkhazia (the SMM of the Republic of Abkhazia), announced on July, 12th.
On July, 10th at 04.30 pm at researching of the car VAZ 2107 in area of the railway station «Kelasur» on Kodori highway an explosive device under the bottom of the imam’s car was revealed. In the car besides Saalikh Kvaratskheliya there were three women and two juvenile children. The explosive device was neutralized by employees of the British nongovernmental organization “Нalo Trust”, it was stated in the information.
The SMM of RA “is deeply revolted by the attempt at the life of the imam of the Sukhumi mosque S.Kvaratskheliya”. At the same time, the SMM of RА “categorically rejects the attempt to explain this act with some internal political, financial and criminal reasons”. Thus the SMM of RA addresses to the law enforcement bodies and the security service of the republic “to take all the possible measures on discovering the crime”.
Authors of the statement regard the incident as “the next attempt of pressure upon the Muslim community of Abkhazia, and destabilization of situation in the republic”.
