The Circassian national performance «Djegu» is an absolutely unique phenomenon in the rich ethnic culture of Circassians. In the past Djegu for Circassians was an important social institute with various functions. Carrying out of Djegu used to be dated to the holidays of the national calendar; Djegu was an obligatory attribute of any important action; it had cult significance. Djegu was a traditional way of dialogue for youth. Young Circassians were brought up in cultural and moral ways, comprehended the complex art «tsyhu haetych’ae».
Djegu is a very beautiful show with unique aesthetics as well as possible demonstrating the national spirit of Circassians, their mentality and outlook.
Djegu is a show in which any person may take part, with his skills of the Circassian dancing, able to behave in cultural way in society.
During the last years a great attention is paid to revival of this remarkable national tradition. Djegu is organized in Nalchik, Pyatigorsk, Cherkessk, Maykop, Armavir, Adygheisk, in Circassian settlements at the Black Sea coast of Krasnodar region.
On July, 7th in Cherkessk next Djegu, the third in this season, takes place. Djegu is organized and will take place in further on every Wednesday.
