The picket organized by Adyghe Khase and «Circassian congress» of Adygeya, passed today, on February 1st, in Maykop on the main square of republic. That action, according to its organizers, was directed against «xenofobia, national intolerance, chauvinism», as Caucasus Times correspondent reported.
According to different estimations, on the square not less than 500 people gathered. It is necessary to note that thickness of the snow cover on this day was more than 50 sm, and many of the gathered regarded the fact that the square by the moment of the picket’s carrying out remained not cleared as a kind of sabotage of the town mayoralty which had authorized for carrying out of the picket but had not taken care of people which should gather.
At carrying out of the action there were not speeches, but posters said «NO to national chauvinism», «Nationalism destroys Russia», «No War in Adygeya», «Youth for stability in our republic», «What «US» achieves» (Caucasus Times: «US», is obvious — the Union of Slavs of Adygeya).
The opposition to picketeers was represented by the deputy of the State Soviet-Khase, the head of the parliamentary committee under legislation and legality Anatoly Osokin. He reproached the picket’s organizers that they had gathered on the square children (Caucasus Times: a separate column on the square was students of the republican pedagogical college).
He was objected: nobody forced anybody to do what. As to that youth was in majority on the square: who else accept them should be interested in the future? The second of Osokin’s arguments was: nobody was going to liquidate the republic; it was just a question of integration with Krasnodar territory, and struggle against the local corruption.
He was objected: «Integration with the territory» was only an allegory meaning liquidation of Adygeya republic. The head of the committee under legislation like no other should know: the laws of Adygeya were brought into accord with the federal legislation in such degree, that they could only say about of Adygeya’s integration into the territory district by district.
As to corruption it supposes monetary streams that were concentrated in Moscow. And that dispute proceeded up to the end of the action.
Note: according to the organizers of the picket, its continuation was planned on February 8th.
