UN Secretary General’s visit will promote settlement of conflicts in Georgia

The state minister of Georgia concerning settlement of conflicts considered the visit of the Secretary General of the United Nations to Georgia would promote settlement of the conflicts existing in the territory of the country. The State minister of Georgia declared it in his conversation with the correspondent of «Caucasian unit», replying the question whether the visit of the UN secretary general to Georgia could promote settlement of conflicts in the territory of Georgia.

«The Secretary general of the United Nations is a very scale and very powerful political figure in the world and his visit to Georgia naturally has the purpose of promotion of the peace processes and founding peace in our country», — declared Haindrava. The State minister of Georgia noted that «how it will be particularly made — time will show; but I am absolutely sure that one of the overall objectives of Mister Kofi Annan’s arrival to Georgia was just to promote settlement of the conflicts».

Kofi Annan visited Georgia with a short-term visit. He had negotiations with the president of the country Michael Saakashvili and assured him and the people of Georgia that the United Nations would continue efforts directed on rendering assistance in settlement of the Georgian-Abkhazian conflict. Kofi Annan in the conversation with Michael Saakashvili also noted that he was very much impressed with the progress in the social and the economic spheres of Georgia, reached during so short period of time.
