The First President of Abkhazia, the national Hero Vladislav Ardzinba was buried under his will in the native village of Eshera of the Sukhum district on the Memorial to the lost soldiers of the Gumistine front. The Glory Museum is also located there. The river Gumista, which have been the front line during the 1992-1993 Patriotic War of the Abkhaz nation, can be seen from the place where Vladislav Ardzinba is buried.
Tens thousands of Abkhazia’s residents have arrived today in Sukhum to pay last tribute to the First President. From early morning people have come to the Abkhaz State philharmonic society where the coffin with Ardzinba’s body has been placed, to pay last respect to the Hero of Abkhazia. Ardzinba for the Abkhaz nation is a symbol of the national-liberation struggle.
Vladislav Ardzinba’s death has become a big tragedy for the entire Abkhaz nation and people did not conceal their emotions, some, passing the coffin, cried. All communities of Abkhazia including the Gypsy one has come to pay last respect to the First President.
The mourning meeting was scheduled to begin at 2:00pm Moscow time, however because of a huge stream of people, it was postponed for an hour.
To the village of Eshera the coffin covered with the National flag of Abkhazia went on a gun carriage decorated with natural flowers following an armored troop-carrier. Thousands were accompanying the mourning procession.
