Circassians’ Tragic History Gains Wider International Attention
On June 30, one of the largest Circassian organizations in the North Caucasus, the Adyge Khase (aka the Circassian Parliament), held a conference in Maikop, Adygea. The head of the organization, Adam Bogus, portrayed the plight of the Circassians in the North Caucasus in bleak terms. Bogus stated that the division of the Circassians into several administrative subjects was a major obstacle to the further development of the Circassian nation. He said the administrative divisions result in extremely limited communication between Circassian communities in the North Caucasus and amplify the processes of assimilation.

The Circassians defended their historical homeland for centuries against repeated Czarist Russian aggression up until the mid-19th century. After the conclusion of the 100 year colonial war our ancestors were subjected to forced deportation from their historical homeland.
